Monday, March 26th

Good Morning and Happy Monday! So, yesterday was my birthday and I feel like I was spoiled from Friday until last night. My family was so cute and thoughtful. I have to be honest with all of you - I hate shopping for clothes!!! I LOVE shopping for home decor items or at hardware stores but the clothes shopping just isn't fun for me. So my sweet Eric found me some darling shirts and some super cute capris. He isn't afraid to march into the clothes store and find someone to help him. I just love him to pieces and am so grateful for such a sweet husband! He has treated me like gold since the first day I met him - many years ago! I Love You Honey!! My sweet kids (with the help of Eric's wallet) bought me a super cool rooster for my kitchen. Chloee did my hair in about 30 braids yesterday after church and I Looked Beautiful! My sister made me a delicious cake (actually 2 because her sweet little three year old decided to try a handful of the first cake before we got any - hehehe). Eric also decided to text all the people on my phone Saturday Morning and tell them it was my birthday and it would be great if they all texted me and wished me a happy birthday. Thank you to everyone who texted, called, emailed and visited. I am so blessed and have the best friends and family in the whole world!!!

Welcome to ~Make Your House A Home~ where we post fun ideas that ~Make Our House A Home~. We have shared several decorating ideas and are very excited to share other things that make our home special to our family. I mentioned last week that I love to BAKE! I have great memories from when I was a child of walking up the driveway after school and smelling fresh baked bread! I love when my kids get home from school and are excited about their after school snack (or should I call it a meal?) They are always starving when they get home! I thought it would be fun to share some of our favorite baked goods with all of you.

The First Item is my Mom's Texas Sheet Cake. I have no idea where she got this recipe, but she passed it to me, so I am going to give her the credit. My kids LOVE this cake. This is the cake Chloee chose for her last birthday!

Texas Sheet Cake - In a Heavy Sauce Pan brint to a boil: 2 Cubes of Butter/Margarine, 1 Cup Water & 4 Tbs. Cocoa. Remove from burner and mix in 2 Cups Sugar, 2 Cups Flour, & 1/2 Tsp. Salt. Add 1/2 Cup Sour Cream, 2 Eggs and 1 Tsp Soda. Pour cake batter into a 10X15 greased pan. Cook 25 minutes at 375 Degrees. Cocoa Butter Frosting: Bring the following ingredients to a boil: 1 Cube Butter/Margarine, 6 Tbs. Milk & 4 Tbs Cocoa. Mix in 1 Tsp Vanilla & Powdered Sugar. Pour this Cocoa Butter Frosting onto the cake while the cake is still warm. We love this cake when it is right out of the oven! Delicious!

Once Again, I got this recipe from my wonderful mother... One of our Christmas Traditions when we were kids was eating Banana Bread on Christmas morning while we were opening our presents. YUMMY! So I actually think of Christmas when I make this recipe, but I make it all the time. I usually quadruple this recipe and get four loaves out of each batch. It freezes really good and is an easy snack or breakfast!. We also love to toast it in the toaster and add a little butter on top!!

Banana Bread - Cream together: 1 Cup sugar and 1/2 Cup Butter/Margarine. Then add 2 Beaten Eggs, 1 Tsp Vanilla and 1 Cup Mashed Bananas. (I have a Bosch Mixer with a blender attachment. I always throw my ripe bananas into the blender which has measurements right on the side. It makes it very easy to measure.) Last But Not Least~ Add: 2 Cups Flour, 1 Tsp Salt and 1 Tsp Baking Soda. Pour into a Greased Bread Pan and bake 1 Hour at 350 Degrees. Depending on your oven, you may need to bake it a little longer. Just stick a knife into the center of the bread. If it comes out clean, it is done!! I can actually smell when the bread is done. Once is it ready to come out of the oven, it has a different smell~

Fresh Homemade Bread - I'm not even going to attempt giving you this recipe, because i kindof just throw things into the mixer. My mother in law Sheri gave me a recipe for her Cinnamon Twists years ago and I kindof revised her recipe into a bread recipe. I am sure there are hundreds of you that can bake better bread than me. I am not a professional bread maker at all. My family always tells me that it is the "Best Bread Ever"..... I think it is because I am their mom/wife. Everything my mom made was my favorite (and still is) because she is my mom and she added her love to everything she made for us. So find a bread recipe that you like and make it for your family. I bet it will become their favorite because you made it for them and added a little bit of your love.

Isn't it amazing that we can type in google on the computer and learn just about anything?!! Because we are up and running, I love to get my house cleaned and all of my baking done first thing in the morning. We actually accomplished a lot this morning.... Saturday, March 17th ~Welcome to ~Make Your House A Home~ where we give great decorating ideas that we have used in our own home and in other friends homes. One of the reasons we started this business years ago was because of our little house. We needed extra storage and just didn't have it. We had a lot of little spaces in our home and began designing, creating, and building fun furniture pieces to fit these areas! One thing I have learned from raising a family and running a business in a small home is - ORGANIZATION! Am I the most organized person in the world? Absolutely not!! But I try really hard to be organized because our life is much more peaceful and enjoyable. I absolutely love to Bake! I have often told Eric how much fun it would be to have a bakery - Crazy Huh? The getting up at 3:00 in the morning to have everything ready for the day would be horrible, but the fresh smell of something baking is amazing! I have found that baking is much easier and much more enjoyable when my Kitchen Is Organized and clean. In fact, I can't start baking something until the dishes are done and the kitchen is clean. I have shown some of my kitchen ideas before, but I want to share them with you again because there is more than "Cute Decor Ideas" behind my madness. This is a picture of one of the cabinets in our kitchen. First of all, I purchased clear containers so I could see what was inside. I also labeled each container because some of the ingredients look very similar and we don't want to mix up the baking powder with the baking soda or the cider mix with the hot chocolate. I actually thought they looked more decorative with the label on each container. I have placed all of the spices I use on a regular basis in glass containers and I placed the rest in a cute basket. I have placed the flour, sugar, brown sugar, and oats in larger containers that sit on my counter. These are the containers that I pasted rooster pictures on to match our kitchen. I also have containers for our popcorn, pasta and chocolate chips. They are super cute and very functional. I save a lot of time when baking because of the organization of my cupboard and the labeling of all our containers.

These are the small containers I chose for my spices and powders. They are stackable and very easy to see through.

These are air-tight containers and I love these also. Everything is labeled and ready to use. Because they are all the same diameter, they fit perfectly together in my cabinet.

These are the containers I have placed on the top of my counters. They keep my ingredients fresh and because they are clear containers I can tell when they are ready for a re-fill.

This is another must have in our home. This is a Large Cabinet that Eric built for me. It has two upper cabinet doors, a drawer in the middle and two cabinet doors on the bottom. We place all of our blankets in the top part. The shelves are adjustable which is wonderful! The middle drawer holds books and magazines and the lower portion of this cabinet is for our board games. It is packed full all the time, but with the doors closed it doesn't look cluttered. I love having items organized an easy to find!

Another must have in our home is our Entertainment Center. We have collected many movies, games & books over the past many years we have been married. Eric built this piece this space. It has two side cabinets which hold our movies, games, books and more. The middle cabinet holds our TV, game units, DVD players etc. Needless to say, each cabinet is FULL!! But again, with the doors closed it doesn't look bad. I like keeping all of the electronics together so the kids know where to find things when they are looking for them.

It is much easier to find movies when they are organized and yes, the top row are VHS tapes. Does this show how old Eric and I are. It is about time to retire these!!

Another great piece is this Two Piece Hutch we have in our Bathroom. We have a really great space in our bathroom and I have tried many different pieces in this area. I have placed benches, a bakers rack and more. But this one takes the cake. I love this furniture piece. The top is great for decorating and the bottom cabinet is GREAT STORAGE. All of our towels, washcloths, rags, bathroom supplies and more fit in the bottom of this cabinet. We custom built it to fit perfectly in this space so we could put as much in this cabinet as possible! LOVE IT!!

Alot of them are made from old headboards and they are super stinkin' cute!! We have one today..... This Antique White Bench has been painted, distressed and sealed. The dimensions for this bench are 37" Tall x 41" Long X 18" Deep. This would be darling in a child's room with stuffed animals, in a living room with a quilt, or a front porch. What a beautiful weekend and gotta love that sun coming in the windows this morning!!! My windows are looking a little dirty after this long winter. I am thinking a good window washing is in order. We have a great friend that lives near us that owns a window washing business and he does a fantastic job!! If any of you are interested in getting his name and phone number, let us know. ~Welcome to ~Make Your House A Home~ where we share ideas that we have used to decorate our own home and in some of our friends & families homes. If any of you have fun ideas you have used in your homes, PLEASE take pictures and email them to us. We would love to see them and would love to share them with all of our blog friends if you wouldn't mind.
Another fun decor item we love using is ~Wreaths~. I love taking a very simple twig wreath and adding berries and fabric. I also love keeping the round wreaths simple and hanging them with a piece of burlap fabric. Burlap is very in style right now and can be used in so many different ways. I have see everything from pillows, to table cloths and so much more. It comes in many different colors such as brown, tan, deep red and green. Great for me because those are the colors in our home, so it works well with our decor.

We have the "Old Style" doors throughout our house and I wanted to dress them up a little bit. I took a piece of Green Burlap Fabric & Hung These Round Twig Wreaths on each door. It really warmed up our home and only took me a few minutes!!

This is a very simple idea.... I already have tan and brown towls hanging in my bathroom for decor. I have placed a fabric runner in front of the towels. I then took some ~Tan Burlap Fabric & Tied The Wreath To The Fabric Runner. It is super cute, simply and fast!!

This is an open wall in my kitchen that we attached beadboard to. I have always wanted something there and love the idea of this Large Twig Wreath with a Tan Burlap Handle. It is so simple, yet made a huge impact in our kitchen! Love It!!!

This Round Wreath with Knob Berries turned out really cute!! The knob berries were 12" Long picks. I took three of them, wrapped them around the wreath, attached a tan burlap piece of fabric and Wallaaa~ It is beautiful!!

Many of you have seen this wreath and many of you have one of these wreaths. This is a 15" Twig Wreath w/Berries. We order the wreaths from a place in California and the Berries come from the mid-west. We add the berries to these wreaths and they are fantastic!!! I used a small black ribbon to attach this wreath to one of our Wreath Frames.

This Berry Wreath is the same idea as above, just larger! Rather than hang this one on the wall, I set it on a shelf. Super fun back ground for this display!

This is another great and inexpensive way to add a little fun to the kitchen or dining area. I attached a Small, Round Twig Wreath to every chair around the table. I tied them around the top of the chair which allows us to flip them to the front or backside of the chair. I used a green burlap fabric, but imagine the possibilities. A different color of fabric or ribbon could be used for each holiday or season. Add a spash of color by adding some berries or small floral pieces to these wreaths. Love This Idea!!

This Round Twig Wreath is hanging in my bathroom under a shelf. Again, I have wanted something on this wall, but already had a lot of wood items hanging on this wall. Again, I just added some burlap and hung this wreath from one of the knobs on the shelf! Super Easy and it softens the whole wall.
